William married Josephine Fosgate December 25, 1883 in Davenport, Scott County, Iowa.^(12206) Josephine was born January 20, 1856 in Kane County, Illinois.^(12207) Josephine^(12208) was the daughter of Unknown Fosgate. Josephine died November 25, 1894 in San Jose, Tuolumne County, California, at 38 years of age.^(12209) She died of tuberculosis at the home of her sister.

When Josephine was age 32 and William King Hawkins was age 33 they became the parents of Marjorie Deane Hawkins July 15, 1888 in St. Louis, Missouri.^(12210) Her surname is reported as Forgate in many places but Marcia Ryan, a descendant, reported: "Sanford Gladden, the author of 'THE DESCENDANTS OF STEPHEN C. HAWKINS AND ALLIED FAMILIES' interviewed Katie Hawkins Lemen for information on some of her siblings. Katie had lost track of Will Hawkins around 1900 and must have had Josephine's name wrong in her memory."

When William was age 33 and Josephine Fosgate was age 32 they became the parents of Marjorie Deane Hawkins July 15, 1888 in St. Louis, Missouri.^(12211) "William King Hawkins was the 'black sheep' (he was a riverboat gambler) and Josephine's family felt he was unsuited to raise Marjorie", after Josephine's death.

William King Hawkins and Josephine Fosgate had the following child:
