537. Col. Henry Clay⁸ Fillebrown (Thomas⁷, Hon. Thomas⁶, John⁵, John⁴, Thomas³, Humpfrey² Phillibrowne, Robert¹ ffilebrowne)⁽⁶²⁴²⁾ was born in Washington, District of Columbia June 14, 1830.⁽⁶²⁴³⁾ He was born at the family home on G Street between 21st and 22nd. Henry died August 13, 1871 in Alabama, at 41 years of age.⁽⁶²⁴⁴⁾ He drowned in the Coosa River while working for the U.S. Survey. His body was never found.

Henry married Margaret Hay Paine June 8, 1856.⁽⁶²⁴⁵⁾ Margaret was born April 9, 1834 in Washington, District of Columbia.⁽⁶²⁴⁶⁾ Margaret⁽⁶²⁴⁷⁾ was the daughter of Orris Snow Paine and Mary Ashton Terrett. Margaret died February 16, 1915 in Washington, District of Columbia, at 80 years of age.⁽⁶²⁴⁸⁾ She died at home in the 1800 block of Park Road.

When Margaret was age 22 and Col. Henry Clay Fillebrown was age 26 they became the parents of Mary Paine Fillebrown March 29, 1857 in Washington, District of Columbia.⁽⁶²⁴⁹⁾ When Margaret was age 25 and Col. Henry Clay Fillebrown was age 29 they became the parents of Kate Slack Fillebrown December 8, 1859 in Washington, District of Columbia.⁽⁶²⁵⁰⁾ When Margaret was age 27 and Col. Fille5 brown, who lost his life by being drowned in the Coosa River, in the State of Alabama, while engaged in the service of the United States as an engineer, the salary the said Henry C. Fillebrown would have been entitled to have received, from the day of his death, viz, August eleventh, eighteen hundred and seventy-one, to the end of the fiscal year in which his death occurred, had he remained in said service, being at the rate of two hundred dollars per month. Passed the House of Representatives May 24, 1872.

Conflicting evidence states that Margaret and Col. Henry Clay Fillebrown became the parents of Thomas Cordera Fillebrown July 8, 1872 in Washington, District of Columbia.⁽⁶²⁵⁷⁾ This date indicates that Thomas was born a few months after his father's death. It is the date indicated on Thomas's tombstone.

Margaret applied for a military pension July 3, 1890 in Washington, District of Columbia.⁽⁶²⁵⁸⁾ She, as her husband's widow, filed for a Civil War Pension application number 430957 and certificate number 257210.

Margaret resided in Washington, District of Columbia circa 1890/91.⁽⁶²⁵⁹⁾ The address was 905 23rd Northwest. Great-granddaughter of Sir Burdett Ashton of England.

Her body was interred in Washington, District of Columbia.⁽⁶²⁸⁶⁾ Burial was in plot 82 Oak Hill Cemetery in Georgetown.

Kate resided in Washington, District of Columbia.⁽⁶²⁸⁷⁾ The home where the four sisters lived together was on Park Road in NW Washington. Robert L. Fillebrown recalls that "Amelia was the only one that worked outside the home (U.S. government), Mattie was chief cook, Fanny did the buying, and Kate was the lady of the house". The home was given to them by a very old friend a Mr. Samuel Carter.

Kate resided in Washington, District of Columbia.⁽⁶²⁸⁸⁾ The three sisters move to the 1800 block of N.W. Lanier Place after Amelia's death in 1935.
