He is described as twenty-two years old, five feet nine inches tall, complexion dark, residence, Mansfield. He marched to camp under Captain Hancock, reported corporal...." This was "agreeable to resolve of June 5, 1780, returned as received of Justin Ely, Commissioner, by Brig. Gen. John Glover, at Springfield, July 14, 1780... arrived at Springfield July 13, 1780."

James Fillebrown sold land to Oliver Williams March 1792 in Bristol, Massachusetts.(2288) "The Bristol, Massachusetts, County Registry of Deeds contains the following item of record: James and Matilda Fillebrown, blacksmith, to their brothers Oliver and Benjamin Williams of Easton, Mass., quit claim rights in the estate of their father Benjamin Williams, each had 1/12 part, March, 1792. Matilda, wife of James Fillebrown, resigns her dower right in same May 3, 1794, Volume 71, page 29."

When James was age 53 and Matilda Williams was age 46 they became the parents of Matilda Fillebrown November 16, 1810 in Readfield, Lincoln County, Massachusetts (now Maine).(2299) James served in the military circa 1812.(2300) He enlisted "...from Readfield as a private in the Maine militia, a part of the time in Capt. Benjamin Smith's company of Colonel Sweet's regiment". He drove the baggage wagon in the same regiment where his son was a sergeant at Wiscasset Lincoln Co., ME from September 12th - 28th, 1812."

James applied for a military pension July 13, 1832 in Readfield, Kennebec County, Maine.(2301) "He made application ... for a pension, which was allowed for fifteen months and seventeen days actual service as a private in the Massachusetts troops. He told his grandchildren that he was a drummer boy in the battle of Bunker Hill where a musket-ball from a British rifle grazed his face; also that he was with Gen. George Washington at Valley Forge, where he came near starving, subsisting on parched corn for a long time. According to his own narration he was also in the battle of Trenton." According to the Genealogy of the Fillebrown Family by Charles Bowdoin Fillebrown his surname is shown as Filebrown, Phillebrown, and Fillebrown in various military records. In 1910 he was "remembered by his grandchildren as having light blue eyes, a mild and kindly disposition." His Family Bible was in the possession of C.L. Fillebrown in 1909 according to Source 440.
